Basic Rigging Principles

Fundamentals of RF Radiation

This course is geared towards individuals working in close proximity to RF sources and exposed to radiation in their work.  The goal of this course is to take a topic that is difficult to understand and simplify it.  The student should walk away with the ability to recognize and respond to RF related hazards. 

Some of the topics covered in this course include: current legislation; definitions and explanations of radiation, both ionizing and non-ionizing; how the body reacts to exposure from RF radiation; types of antennas and their frequencies; signage and PPE related to RF work.

Authorized Climber

The goal of this course is to provide the worker with an understanding of the rules and regulations of fall protection, the equipment they must wear and how to use it.

By definition an “Authorized Climber” is an individual with the physical capability to climb; who may or may not have previous climbing experience; and who has been trained in fall protection regulations, the equipment that applies to their type of work, and instruction for the proper use of the equipment. At the completion of this course it is the employer’s responsibility to pair an Authorized Climber with a Competent Climber to ensure the Authorized Climber understands how to don and use their equipment.

WHMIS

WHMIS stands for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.  This system was created based on a worker’s right to know the hazardous materials they are exposed to in the workplace. 

This course is designed to teach students how to identify and understand the labeling and MSDS components of the program.  At the completion of this course, the student should be able to identify and understand when and how to use workplace labels, supplier labels, MSDS and recognize the hazard symbols that represent each class of hazardous materials.

Competent Climber Refresher

The current industry standards state that Competent Climbers shall be evaluated once a year and have updated training every two years to stay current with new regulations, equipment and work hazards.

This course is intended for workers who: 1) have been through an industry recognized Fall Protection Course; 2) hold a current Competent Climber certificate; 3) climb regularly; and, 4) need a refresher course in order to keep their current certification in good standing.  At the completion of this course it is the employer’s responsibility to evaluate and ensure the worker has the climbing skills to go along with their certifications. 

The foundation of this course is based on the NATE CTS/CTP outline and the ANSI Z359.2-2007 standard “Minimum Requirements for a Comprehensive Managed Fall Protection Program.”  The course also takes into account new equipment and standards.

Crane Spotter and Signal Person Training

This course will cover the industry recognized regulations and standards; the 2010 OSHA regulations for individuals giving hand signals and for spotters; and a basic overview of how a crane operates and common hazards encountered.

The Gin Pole course is a clarification of the TIA-PN-4860 Gin Pole standard for “Design and Use” as referenced by the OSHA Directive CPL 2-1.36. In this course you will learn the design criteria of a gin pole and how the gin pole is used.

Some of the chapters covered include: Scope and Objective; Reference Standards; Unique Loading Conditions; Gin Pole Parts and Definitions; Classes of Poles; Special Engineered Pick; Manufacturing Specifications and Tolerances; Gin Pole Operations and Use; among others.

Hoist

This course is a clarification of the NATE standard titled “Base Mounted Hoist Mechanism Design and Use Standard for Lifting Personnel while Working on Telecommunications Structures” as referenced by OSHA Directive CPL 2-1.36. In this course you will learn the design criteria for a Base Mounted Hoist and how the hoist is used and maintained.

Some of the chapters covered include: Scope and Objective; Reference Standards; Design Criteria; Understanding the Parts; Anchorage; Operator Qualifications; Lifting Guidelines; Pre-lift Load Testing; among others.
